Navigating the World of Plastics for End Product Applications
On Demand Webinars - register here
Increase your awareness of plastics performance properties and make better, more informed decisions in testing and selecting plastics for end-use applications.
The safety and performance requirements for end-products starts by selecting the right materials in advance; materials that have already been tested and validated to meet the specifications and safety criteria required for the life of the end-product. What happens when the properties of those plastic materials changes? How will that impact end-product performance?
In this series of webinars, UL’s plastics experts review and discuss how such changes can impact plastics performance properties to help you make better, more informed decisions in testing and selecting plastics for end-use applications.
Key topics include
- Understanding the advantages of plastics preselection testing
- Critical plastics performance at elevated temperatures
- How changes in polymer formulations may affect end-product performance
- Concentrates and acceptable modifications at the molder
- How to navigate material selection using our material databases
- Understanding restrictive substances in plastics
- Plastics in outdoor use and special applications
- The importance of using certified materials in additive manufacturing
- De-mystifying small scale flammability testing
- Sustainable plastics in end-product applications
- Plastic materials for use in automotive applications
Speaker
Kenneth R. Vessey, Jr., senior staff engineer and distinguished member of technical staff, UL

Managing Your Supply Chain Disruptions:
Material Substitutions
On Demand Webinar - register here
Mar 24, 2021 – 11:00am CDT
The pandemic and other recent market conditions have caused plastics supply chain sourcing and transportation disruptions that are wreaking havoc in manufacturing production timelines. How can plastic manufacturers seek alternatives in raw materials to keep business moving forward?
Learning objectives
For plastic users:
- Methods to evaluate comparable materials
- How to analyze applications for your materials
- Considerations for end-product certification related to material substitutions
- Utilizing UL Product iQ® and UL Prospector® databases to identify possible materials as candidates for substitution
- Access UL Product iQ® to quickly locate certified products and components
- Access Prospector®, our leading materials and ingredients search engine, to help source alternatives
For plastic manufacturers:
- Obtaining expedited recognition of a material using UL’s polymer variation program
- Utilizing the Prospector database to identify possible polymeric ingredients to substitute in material formulations
- Q&A with a UL plastics expert

Certification Standards and Evaluation of Electrical Insulation Systems Webinar Series
On Demand Webinar - register here
High reliability and performance are the foundation of a quality product. To achieve this, it is imperative that high-quality electrical insulation materials and electrical insulation systems are used and thoroughly reviewed when building magnetic devices, including motors, transformers, generators, and solenoids.
Deepen your knowledge on certification standards and evaluation of EIS for safety and performance through UL’s complimentary three-session on-demand webinar series.
Using the Blue Card Program for 3D Printed Products
On Demand Webinar - register here
Mechanical properties of 3D printed materials have repeatedly been demonstrated to significantly vary based on how test specimens were printed. These variations are substantially greater than for conventional injection molded samples. There is a lack of knowledge, however, on the influence of 3D printing on ignition, flammability and electrical material properties associated with UL safety standards.
UL will share its latest research findings on the impact of 3D printing on safety-critical printed part properties and highlight an approach for acceptance of 3D printed materials and components in end products.
